Double Trilobite Fossil Plate, Coltraenia oufatenensis and Phacops, from Morocco

  

This is a unique double trilobite plate with a. And a Phacops sp on it. They come from the Oufaten/ Alnif region of present-day Morocco.

The animal lived during the Lower to Middle Devonian. But has more pronounced eyes and no genal spines. Trilobites and matrix measure 2.99 inches long, 2.0 inches wide and 2.55 inches high. Extremely well-preserved Schizochroal lenses are present in both eyes of the Coltraenia and the visible eye of the Phacops.

There is a repair running through the tips of the thoracic spines of the Coltraenia as well as the tips of both genal spines. In the trilobite- collecting world this is not a detriment.

Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimen often gets broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
